What We Do

Welcome to PlanetShop, where we celebrate the creativity, craftsmanship, and ingenuity of local makers from around the world. Our mission is simple: to shine a spotlight on the incredible products made in our own communities and encourage people to shop locally, sustainably, and responsibly.

In a world dominated by mass-produced imports, PlanetShop is here to provide an alternative—a platform that connects socially-conscious shoppers with businesses that put quality, ethics, and community first. We believe that every purchase has the power to support small businesses, reduce environmental impact, and foster a global movement toward more mindful shopping.

Why We Started

We were inspired by a simple idea: what if shopping could be more personal, meaningful, and impactful? What if, instead of supporting large corporations, we focused on the businesses right in our backyards? PlanetShop was born out of this vision—a way to promote local talent and encourage people to rediscover the joy of buying thoughtfully.

Who We Are

A couple of friends who started working together in 2017 on a sport competition TV reality series based on Craig’s past as an AFL player and Naomi’s experience in television. Despite a promising start the series didn’t go anywhere but we did: straight into the next project – an iOS app called DayCoach we developed to help people manage their habits and tasks in a simple, fun, new format. While working on this app, the pandemic of 2020 hit and we read of the report that was published in Australia outlining the vulnerability of our overreliance on overseas supply chains. Change begins at home, so we decided to try to buy more Australian products rather than automatically going in search of the best deal online which would inevitably lead to overseas manufacturing. We found out that that was easier said than done and we got inspired to do some thing about it.

Naomi

Naomi has 30 years’ experience as a communicator in the US, Canada and Australia. She is an expert trainer and public speaker, and she spent 20 years as a senior TV writer and producer in Los Angeles. Naomi is recognized as a creative and innovative thinker who can deliver results. She has successfully developed an iOS app, Remindfulness, featured in numerous top 10 lists including Cosmopolitan magazine in 2018. Together with Craig Elias, Naomi helped develop a competition reality series The Catch for Warner International Television. Although not ultimately picked up, the experience has propelled her to add projects to their slate. Her skills include; working collaboratively, managing large scale programs, juggling multi-million dollar budgets and delivering on time within budget. Fun facts: She served as a director on the board of the Australian Writers Guild and is a veteran of over 75 hours of produced movies, miniseries and episodic TV; her work has appeared on CBC, ABC, NBC, Fox, WB Kids, Lifetime Network, HBO, and Animal Planet as well as in worldwide syndication. Naomi is an expert practitioner and one of the top trainers in the world of the evidence-based energy psychology modality Clinical EFT.

Craig

Craig is an out-of-the-box thinker who has turned ideas into successful and ongoing businesses. He is an entrepreneur, commercial property developer, and has a passion for pushing boundaries. Craig is recognized as a visionary. He had a goal to turn his original sporting concept into a reality TV competition. Together with his team, he developed The Catch and ended up pitching it to the top 10 studios and production houses in Los Angeles. Though the series never materialised, this experience has inspired him to expand his horizons into app development (DayCoach) and new startup projects. His love of architecture and inexhaustible creativity as a businessman allows him to see the potential in “ugly government buildings” with a determination to create attractive environments. This has resulted in several high-profile projects credited with helping to revitalize the retail areas they are located in. His skills include: project management, financial investment, public relations and community engagement. Fun facts: Craig started out as a professional footballer and was drafted to the Sydney Swans AFL club as a 17-year-old. He was forced to retire at the age of just 23 through injury.
